Knowledge Process Outsourcing or KPO is a new wave that is surging in the business of global outsourcing. It is considered to be the intellectual cousin of the call centre process. KPO mostly deals with the off shoring of high end jobs in order to increase operational efficiencies and cut expenditures.

KPO provides assistance in the transfer of expertise that is domain specific in nature as compared to the process expertise. The KPO sector provides high-end services that include Business and Technical Analysis, Research and Development, Data Analytics, Consultancy and Training, Legal Services, Medical Facilities, Advanced Web Applications, Market and Business Research and, Writing and Content Development to name a few.

The companies give grades or cut off marks based on the kind of domain knowledge. Subsequent to the recruitment procedure, the companies themselves undertake the process of training of the candidates in the skills required by the firm. Prospective employees are then trained to work under pressure, in teams and in different timings of shift.

Qualifications Required:

For applying in the KPO sector, there is no requirement of a particular qualification. However, some of the favored professional categories and the qualifications that are associated with them include MBA’s, Engineers, Doctors, Teachers, Lawyers, Economists, Chartered Accountants, Journalists and Architects.

People who have a good background in science stand to have a better chance due to their flair in research, mathematics and science. Additionally, people having good analytical abilities, command over IT acumen and English language can look for a bright career in the KPOs. Hence, the key competencies that are required include basic interest in the work field, good domain knowledge, working aptitude with information and data, team work and good communication skills.

Growth Prospects:

If the recent estimates and report are anything to go by, it is expected that there would be a phenomenal growth in the KPO sector in the current years. In addition, another reason why KPO sector is set to grow is the variety of services that it has to offer. These range from services related to writing and content development to the legal and health services.

In fact, the jobs in the KPO sector are witnessing a growth, which is directly proportional to the growth of the sector. This sector promises long term job opportunities for the highly skilled and intellectual workforce. The main reason behind the tremendous growth in the job opportunity is the fact that KPO’s have preference to the people having diverse academic backgrounds. This is mainly because they are known to provide quality work to their clients. Hence, both the young and old Americans can look forward to the KPO sector as a prospective employing sector.
