Free public records search allow any citizen to gain access to public records they need simply by going online and using the right sites. Public records are documents that are kept in government archives and serve as legal proofs of certain transactions that individuals make. They can be in the form of birth registration, wedding, address changes, name changes, business history, and many others.

In most cases, members of the general public can avail access to these documents without paying any fee. They are even mostly available without restrictions, meaning you can access any record without being required to obtain and pass authorization forms or letters. There are minor exemptions to this rule, however, especially when it comes to those records that contain sensitive information such as the name of witnesses or victims in a particular criminal act.

Free public records search are actually done in two ways – online and offline. By online, we mean using the internet and looking for a database that grant users access to public records. Websites that offer such services mostly have billions of public records in their archives so that you have great chances of finding what you need. You may search by name (type the name of the person and look for the public record you need) or you may also narrow your search by specifying the place where you think the record is located.

Doing it offline requires more hard work on your part. It involves making a personal visit to the appropriate office plus it could also take you some time since you might need to stand in long lines and wait for your turn as well. If you need more than one type of public record, then you might need to visit more offices too since most of the establishments have different jurisdictions and keep different records.
