Learning the steps to tie a tie is as important as tying a shoelace. At one point in your life, you will be required to apply your knowledge in putting on a Windsor tie and wear one. This is most especially true in men - sooner or later, you will need to attend the prom, go to a social gathering such as a wedding, go to church, or go to a job interview. Knowing a few of them will not only help you knot your ties very quickly, but it can prepare you for every occasion when you will be required to wear a tie.

It is now obvious that tie wearing is not one simple formula, it is rather complicated: what kind of tie will fit, what kind of not to use, for which kind of shirt? In time, you will learn everything you need to know about ties. All you need to do is pull away from your comfort zone, do some reading and try to learning different knots and the steps to tie a tie in various ways.

The most general type of knot is the Windsor knot. It is used for almost all types of occasions, be it social or profession or work related. You can get by knowing the steps to tie a tie in a Windsor knot without having to worry as to whether your knot will fit the occasion. On the other hand, if you are a beginner and would like the easiest way out, you can go for a Four in Hand Knot which is one of the easiest knots to do. The Four in Hand is good for any button down shirt and is rather simple to do. The half Windsor knot is also as famous. The Pratt or the Shelby knot is great for thin to medium thick ties and any dress shirt as well.

If you are a beginner, everyone else will surely suggest that you learn the steps to tie a tie in either a Windsor or a Four in Hand knot. Both these knots work with just about all combinations of dress shirt and tie material. Remember though that your tie is the focal point and serves as a representation of your professionalism and maturity. A knot that is poorly ties will reflect negativity in your ability and personality. Whichever kind of tie you choose, make sure that you learn how to tie it not only properly, but perfectly, because you are worth it. Go on and make that perfect tie.
