A car accident in Mexico is much more of a hassle than having an incident take place at home - especially if you are an American tourist, as Mr. Bill K. explains. Mr. K. has recounted his experiences of an accident that took place in Mexico and the following week he experienced with the Mexican police. It is his hope that he will encourage all Americans to come prepared when driving a car in Mexico.

Mexican car insurance is an important resource to possess, for reasons that become obvious as you browse his true story. Additionally, this was not the first time Mr. K. traveled to Mexico when he was involved in an accident in Southern Mexico, as he was driving a truck that belonged to his friend.

Bill was at the wheel of the truck, as he was an impeccable driver who knew how to maneuver with the road conditions that were becoming unbearable due to a mounting rainstorm. This left him relying on his friend's Mexico insurance.

Bill and his friend were traveling at a cautious 30 MPH hour when they rounded a corner to find a Mexican military hurtling towards them partly on their side of the road. Unable to avoid the crash, the two vehicles impacted head-on left, sending the personnel scattered down an embankment and Bill and his friend into the cliff wall on the opposite side.

Within minutes, the Mexican police arrive and one speeds an injured Bill away to a location unknown to him or his companion who is left standing roadside. In Mexico, there is no 'innocent until proven guilty' - exactly the opposite.

Bill finds himself in a Mexican detention cell without any contact and without any knowledge of his fate, in part because at this point he has no way of knowing whether his friend even carried Mexican auto insurance.

Hours later, guards return to take him back to the accident scene where he is at least able to reunite with his friend and his friend's Mexican car insurance policy. In the U.S., this might mean problem solved, but in Mexico, there is much more to go through.

The whole story is lengthier, more detailed and more than a little uncomfortable for Bill. During a week in the hospital, Bill tried very hard to make sure his injuries would keep him out of the Mexican jail. With legal representatives that had low ethics and technology that was a muddled mess, Bill was at the mercy of the local authorities and paying his way out seemed futile.

There were many times when Bill was unsure if he would ever get out of the mess-if he could afford to get out of the mess. In the end, Bill does gain his tenuous freedom, only after spending more than $28,000 US. Luckily for Bill, he was able to secure the money to secure his freedom, but many other Americans would have fallen far short.

It is the disorganization and deceit found in Mexico that caused Bill to doubt if he would ever see a gain on his life's venture. However, he learned a lot of things from his ordeal that he is determined to share with all of the Americans planning a trip to Mexico:

Be sure to have a cell phone or satellite phone on you at all times and learn the dialing codes in Mexico.

Keep in contact with family at home who can send money quickly when needed and keep close contact with your Mexican Insurance company since you may not be able to reach them yourself.

And above all else-

ALWAYS HAVE MEXICO AUTO INSURANCE - the kind that delivers good protection and adequately covers personal injury and damage to property.

Be sure the Mexican auto insurance company is reputable.

Make certain that you have proof of Mexico Insurance within the car and at hand all the time! (Should you be away from the vehicle, have the Mexican auto insurance ID cards on your person!)

Bill Kitto's long and trying ordeal proved one thing to him-money makes the Mexican world go round. Down there, they care little about where that money comes from, but whether you can pay the tab or not is what determines your innocence and ultimate freedom.

Since getting your hands on $30,000 in a flash is too far-fetched for many of us to imagine, the best way to prevent this kind of incident from occurring is to drive in Mexico with quality Mexico automobile insurance and adequate limits.
