By David Gates - We've all seen ads promising that we can use the Internet to make money. It's tempting to accept this as true, but we all know that there are scams out there, and no such thing as easy money. So, how do we figure out which promises can actually come true and which are empty?
The world of affiliate marketing provides some definite advantages for a certain kind of person looking for a particular sort of opportunity. The basic idea behind affiliate marketing is easy to understand and has been around forever. You help people sell their products and services, and they give you a cut of the profits.
In answering that question "What is affiliate marketing?" Imagine that your friend has a car and he wants to sell it. So you tried to help him and the car did get sold and your friend gives you a reward for helping him selling his car. In that instant you became an affiliate. Now take that idea and put it on the Internet and that is the answer the question, \"What is affiliate marketing?\".
Affiliate marketing is a genuinely lucrative market. Yes, you can work at home and earn really good money from the Internet. But don't think that it's a walk in the park. Nothing in life is that easy. The potential of an affiliate marketer is limitless but there is a price to pay for such potential.
There are some definite benefits to choosing Internet marketing for your home based business. Because you are helping to sell someone else's products, you don't actually have to buy and manage stock yourself. That saves you money, especially in the beginning, when you would otherwise have to shell out for product before you know whether it is going to sell.
Affiliate marketers enjoy freedoms that are not even thinkable in any regular job. No nagging boss, no commute and absolute freedom over their time. They work when and where they want to. I know affiliate marketers who work 10 hours a week and I know others who work 60 hours a week. How much you work is really just a matter of priorities. If you're making enough to live on at 10 hours a week, I say have fun the rest of the time.
It's not all fun and riches, though. Those first few months can be really interesting, when you are trying to build up contacts and make your first sales. You may have some false starts and setbacks. And with no regular salary to count on, there is a definite risk to becoming a full-time affiliate marketer. You need to understand the risks, and decide if you can accept those risks.
You also have to be very self motivated and it helps to be organized. You control your work schedule, but that also means that no one is going to make you work when you need to, but don't want to. You will have to be resourceful, creative, and willing to keep at it when sales are slow, which will be especially true in the beginning. Stick with it though, and the rewards are well worth it.
