This is extremely important since not everyone out there is who they say they are. If you have children from a previous relationship, this is triply important. Child predators stalk the internet. Sometimes they search dating sites for lonely women with children hoping to say all the right things for evil purposes.

You should also have a separate e-mail address just for the purpose of internet correspondence. A hotmail or yahoo account is a good way to go. These are free e-mail accounts and they are also not traceable back to your home computer. You have to sign into these sites to retrieve your e-mail.

If you find a person you are interested in meeting in person, you can give them your cell phone number. You should avoid giving your home phone number until you are completely comfortable. Do not be pressured into giving your home number before you are ready. If the person is right for you, they will understand you concerns. The same goes with your home address.

Always meet in a very public place for the first time. The center of the mall is a good place to meet. There are thousands of people around, so you do not have to feel uncomfortable. Also, this will make it easier for you to leave should your date not go well. You can get away without them ever knowing what kind of vehicle you are driving.

It is a good idea not to take a first time date back to your place, even if the date goes better than expected. The same goes for returning to their place, it is just not a good idea. Anyone can be sweet and charming for a few hours, give the relationship time to become a relationship.

You can do a simple background check on a person if you are considering going out on a date with. Double check that they are who they say they are. This is not rude, it is simply being safe. You can check on their place of work, or do an online search to make sure you are not going out with a felon. This information is public knowledge; better be safe than sorry.

You can realistically find your perfect match online. There are lists of current online dating services that post success stories on a regular basis. Be smart and use your head if you decide to try the internet to find your next date. You may find your perfect match made in heaven.
